Upgrade Your Closet Without Spending a Cent

Hello Gorgeous!

Are you tired of opening a wardrobe full of clothes every morning and feeling frustrated because you have nothing to wear?

Do you ever feel like throwing away your whole closet and buying a whole new one?

Unfortunately, chances are you would end up buying a very similar one.

How about we take a better look at that wardrobe of ours?

Here comes the big news (drum roll…):

Upgrading your wardrobe so you feel excited and invigorated when you open it, doesn't have to be connected to spending a fortune on new clothes.

I'd encourage you to do this wardrobe upgrade BEFORE you buy your next piece of clothing.

Why?

Because, most of the times, optimising your closet allows you to realise about how much stuff you already own.

And I’m all about making the most of what you already have!

These are my

5 Steps to Upgrade your Wardrobe without Spending a Cent

STEP 1
INVENTORY TIME

it’s not what you wear but how you wear it

Alma Barrero

Do a wardrobe inventory.
List every single piece you have under each category.

( FYI very simple classifications will do: sweaters, shirts, and so on…)

I know what you might be thinking:

Forget it, too much work! I don’t have time for that.

Ok, hang in there!

The single thought of putting STEP 1 into practice feels overwhelming (I’ll be the first one to admit it), yet I bet you had in mind at least one piece you wanted to add to your full/underused closet before reading this!?

You see where I am going?

We need to stop the shopping wheel at some point and think, do I really need to buy more right now?

Or you might say:

Alma, I already know what’s in my closet... Boring clothes, duh!

To which I say:

Take a better look. Based on my experience, chances are you have some goodies in there.

STEP 2
TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

Discard as many pieces in your closet as you can that you either haven't worn in the last year/year and a half or that aren't wearable anymore (torn, worn out, too old...).

You can't upgrade your wardrobe with those pieces inside; it's like mixing water and oil: they won't work together!

STEP 3
FIND SPECIFIC STYLE INSPO

Go to the Style Source of your preference. I love Pinterest, because I can easily find what I'm looking for (but it's totally a personal preference).

Choose 10 outfits you LOVE and would like to include in your weekly style repertoire.

The key here is to pay attention to HOW the stylish people of choice are wearing those pieces.

i.e., how do they wear that shirt?: Tucked in or not? How opened or how closed? How many layers? What kind of pants or shoes do they pair it with? etc

STEP 4
REINVENT YOURSELF

It's time to add some creativity to your old boring wardrobe.

Try to reinvent the way you put your old-time pieces together!

Sometimes we just need to spice up our boring clothes combinations for us to feel like a new version of ourselves.

Some other times we also need to tune into our inner style goddess (yes, we all have one!) and let her work the magic, without adding more pieces into the equation.

STEP 5
TIME TO TAKE A BETTER LOOK

Look at your Closet NOW!

How do you feel about it?

Can you see some hope in the same pieces you were tired of seeing in your closet before the upgrade?

Doesn't it feel much nicer opening your closet now?

It’s time for you to start creating new outfits!

REMEMBER:

It's not WHAT you wear but HOW you wear it.

Over my years as a Style Coach, I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve seen the same problem over and over: women with closets full of clothes with nothing to wear.

Nowadays, before I teach my Style Power Schoolers my Personal Shopping Strategies, I make sure they acknowledge and make the most of what they already have.

From now on, before you add another piece to your collection, do yourself a favour, save that money and get the most out of what you already have, first.

In the meantime,

Sending you Much love and Fabulousness,

X
